Embedded Wi-Fi configuration web portal
A web portal embedded in the firmware binary, opened by a technician's phone to configure Wi-Fi in the field, scan networks and store settings in NVS.
Communication and architecture flow
Industrial challenge / problem:
Maintenance technicians need to change the SSID, Wi-Fi password and MQTT broker IP without reprogramming the board through a USB cable.
Technical solution developed:
Run the Arduino Core synchronous HTTP server on the ESP32. The board starts its own access point, serves the configuration page and stores credentials in NVS. The save operation responds immediately while the connection test runs in the background, so a wrong password does not freeze the phone's HTTP response.
Project component list:
- ESP32 or ESP32-S3 board
- Status indicator LED
Expected result in operation:
Commission parameters in less than two minutes from a phone browser, with the access point remaining active even when the connection fails so the technician can correct it without a cable.
